Futures
Margins Explained |

|
|
Margin
is simply an amount of money that you must keep in
your account for each position that you hold.
Different futures contracts have different margin
requirements which are set by the commodity
exchanges and which may fluctuate from time to time.
Initial
Margin is simply the minimum amount of money you
must have in your account (at the close of trading)
on the first day you establish a new position.
Maintenance
Margin is simply the minimum amount of money you
must have in your account after the first day.
The amount is always slightly less than the Initial
Margin.

Tick
(minimum trade increment) values are often confusing
to new traders; although there's nothing especially
complicated about them. Our page of contract
specs lists futures contract sizes as well as the
actual dollar value for each tick in any given
market.
Tick
values for options are just like the tick values for
the underlying futures. For convenience,
though, all of our option quotes on the web specify
dollar figures for every listed futures option.
